Apple Reportedly Developing Its Own AI Answer Engine

Apple is reportedly working on creating its own AI-powered “answer engine” similar to ChatGPT, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The tech giant has assembled a new internal team known as Answers, Knowledge, and Information, which is focused on building a system capable of responding to user queries using data sourced from across the internet.

The initiative may lead to the development of a standalone AI app, or it could be integrated into existing Apple services such as Siri, Safari, or other proprietary platforms. This move indicates Apple’s growing interest in becoming less dependent on third-party AI tools and enhancing the intelligence of its own ecosystem. 

Currently, Apple has integrated OpenAI’s ChatGPT into Siri, but a more robust, in-house AI upgrade for the voice assistant has faced ongoing delays. By creating its own answer engine, Apple aims to deliver a more seamless and personalized experience for users across its devices.

To support this project, Apple is actively recruiting engineers with expertise in search engine architecture and algorithm design. The company’s job listings suggest a strong focus on search relevance and data-driven question answering—core components of any successful generative AI platform.

This strategic development could also influence Apple’s long-standing relationship with Google. With Google facing recent antitrust challenges, Apple may need to reconsider or even restructure its lucrative search partnership, which currently makes Google the default search engine on Apple devices.

By developing its own AI-powered search and answer tools, Apple not only positions itself more competitively in the AI space but also prepares for a future where it can reduce reliance on external providers—potentially transforming how users interact with their Apple devices.
