Google has updated its AI-powered notetaking app, NotebookLM, to include public sharing features. Users can now share their notebooks via a public link, allowing classmates, coworkers, or students to view and interact with the content. While viewers can’t edit the notebook, they can explore AI-generated features such as audio overviews, briefings, FAQs, and ask questions directly within the notebook interface.
Originally launched as an experimental tool in 2023, NotebookLM has quickly grown in popularity. It helps users engage with and understand complex material by synthesizing information from a wide range of sources—like notes, documents, presentation slides, and even YouTube videos. The app can generate summaries, podcast-style audio discussions, and offer interactive chats based on the notebook’s contents.
Google recently expanded the app’s functionality by launching a mobile version of NotebookLM, further enhancing accessibility and convenience for users on the go.
Sharing a notebook publicly works much like sharing a Google Doc or Slide. Simply click the “Share” button at the top-right corner of the notebook, switch the access setting to “Anyone with the link,” and hit “Copy link.” You can then paste the link in a message, email, or on social media to let others explore your AI-enhanced notebook.
In addition to public sharing, NotebookLM also supports direct sharing by email, where you can give individuals permission to view or edit the notebook. For those using the Gemini app, it’s also possible to share AI-generated audio overviews with others, extending the reach and interactivity of your content.
With these updates, Google positions NotebookLM not just as a note-taking tool, but as a collaborative, AI-driven platform for learning and content exploration.
