Spotify Users Disappointed by Underwhelming Wrapped 2024

Share:

Spotify users eagerly awaiting this year’s Wrapped feature have been left underwhelmed, with many calling it “boring” or a “flop.” Complaints center on the lack of engaging features from past editions, such as personality assessments, musical taste mappings, and detailed stats like top genres and podcasts. Instead, Spotify prioritized an AI-powered podcast created in partnership with Google, which many users found less appealing.

Social media is flooded with feedback under the #SpotifyWrapped2024 hashtag. While users still shared screenshots of their Wrapped summaries, criticism outpaced praise. One viral post calling Wrapped a flop garnered over 108,000 likes. Many lamented the absence of interactive elements like “audio aura” or quirky data-driven games.

This year’s new “Your Music Evolution” feature, repurposing Spotify’s niche genre classifications, was described as “strange” by some. Others noted that Wrapped omitted their Top Podcasts, which Spotify explained is shown only if users listened to at least two unique episodes on two different days.

The AI podcast feature also received mixed reactions. Some users were impressed by the technology, while others felt uneasy. Graphics and design elements were similarly polarizing, with terms like “mid” and “too simple” used to describe them.

Disappointment with Wrapped led some users to speculate that Spotify’s 2023 layoffs, which affected 2,300 employees, contributed to the lackluster experience. Others criticized Spotify’s reliance on AI, suspecting it diluted the creativity and personalization that made Wrapped exciting in previous years.

Despite the backlash, Spotify stated it is already working on Wrapped 2025, aiming to deliver a “new and exciting experience.” Teams from marketing, product, music, and other departments collaborate on the project, but Spotify declined to comment on how decisions about Wrapped features are made.
