Killsense has revamped the PS5’s DualSense controller with a retro GameCube-inspired colour scheme and custom joysticks.
Kill Screen has announced the CubeSense, a customised version of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller, inspired by the iconic Nintendo GameCube. The CubeSense stands out with its unique design, featuring a matte purple shell on the front and a transparent one on the back. While it doesn’t replicate the exact layout of the GameCube’s gamepad, the CubeSense incorporates vibrant red, green, and light grey face buttons, though they differ from the GameCube’s distinctive button arrangement.
What truly sets the CubeSense apart is its joystick design. Killscreen has replaced the standard DualSense joysticks with models that closely resemble the GameCube’s, including a yellow stick with a small nub, which was originally used for camera control. However, unlike the GameCube’s asymmetrical layout, the CubeSense’s sticks are aligned side by side, maintaining the traditional PlayStation configuration.
The CubeSense starts at $149, but Killscreen offers several customization options to enhance the gaming experience. For $169, gamers can upgrade the triggers and bumpers with clicky alternatives that have a shorter travel distance, ideal for first-person shooter (FPS) games where quicker response times are crucial. Additionally, for $169, players can swap the standard rubber membrane face buttons with microswitches for a more tactile, clicky feel. For those who want all the buttons upgraded, the price increases to $179.
While the CubeSense is built on the foundation of a standard DualSense Wireless Controller, Killscreen’s unique customizations make it a standout accessory for gamers seeking both nostalgia and improved gameplay performance.
