How to Unsend an Accidental Email on Your iPhone using the iOS Mail app

Share:

Have you ever sent an email from your iPhone and instantly felt remorseful? We’ve all experienced it. Mistakes like typos, sending to the wrong person or forgetting to include attachments can be stressful. However, don’t worry if you’re using an iPhone! The introduction of Apple’s iOS 16 brought a groundbreaking feature: the ability to retract emails after they are sent.

The Mail app comes with a convenient feature that lets you withdraw an email within a brief period. You no longer have to depend on external apps! Follow these steps to see how it operates:

  • Exclusive to Apple’s Mail app, this feature is not compatible with standalone email apps such as Gmail. Make sure you use the Mail App instead.
  • Prepare your email as you normally would. Once sent, keep an eye out for the “Undo Send” option located at the bottom of your display.
  • Quickly act now, as you have a default time limit of 10 seconds to tap “Undo Send” and withdraw your email.
  • After undoing, you have the liberty to amend your email by rectifying errors prior to resending it with assurance.

To extend the 10-second unsend window, increase your Unsend Buffer. Simply navigate to Settings > Mail > Undo Send Delay and select either a 20 or 30 second delay that suits you best.

Remember to double-check your emails before sending, despite the unsend feature. However, when you have those rare “oh no!” moments, this lifesaving new iPhone function has got you covered.
