Apple may launch a more affordable mixed reality headset as early as next year, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. While the current Vision Pro, priced at $3,500, hasn’t revolutionised the market, Apple remains committed to developing headsets that blend the digital and physical worlds.
The upcoming headset is expected to cost around $2,000, making it a less expensive alternative to the Vision Pro. Apple plans to lower the price by using cheaper materials and a less powerful processor. Additionally, the new model would not feature EyeSight, a technology in the Vision Pro that allows others to see the user’s eyes while they wear the device.
Following this more budget-friendly version, Apple is reportedly planning to release a second-generation Vision Pro in 2026. Looking further ahead, the tech giant could unveil smart glasses, similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban Stories, by 2027. There is also talk of AirPods equipped with cameras being introduced that same year.
In addition to its mixed reality endeavours, Apple is working on expanding its smart home lineup, an area where it has struggled to make significant impact. The company is reportedly developing a more affordable smart home device, an iPad-like screen designed for watching TV, making FaceTime calls, and using various apps. This device would be strategically placed around the house to enhance the smart home experience. Furthermore, Apple is said to be working on a tabletop device with a robotic arm, which could be priced around $1,000.
These moves indicate that Apple is looking to diversify its product offerings across both the mixed reality and smart home markets, despite the challenges it has faced so far.
