Google Messages is getting a new security feature!
When you click a link from someone you don’t have saved in your contacts, you’ll see a warning message. This helps prevent you from accidentally clicking on dangerous websites.
- The warning will say “Caution: this sender isn’t one of your contacts” and “Links from people you don’t know may open unwanted and harmful content”.
- You’ll need to check a box that says “I understand this link may be harmful” before you can open the link.
This extra step is designed to make you think twice before clicking on something suspicious.
What are phishing scams?
Phishing scams try to trick you into clicking on a fake website that looks like a real one (like your bank’s website). Once you enter your login information, the scammer steals it! This new warning can help you avoid falling victim to these scams.
Is this available now?
This feature is currently being tested, but it’s expected to be rolled out to everyone soon.
