The Olympic Council of Asia has rejected online claims that esports will be removed from the Asian Games after the current Aichi-Nagoya event.
In a statement dated 28 September, OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam said esports would continue within the Asian Games and that the organisation would keep supporting its development across Asia.
The OCA also confirmed that the separate Asian Esports and Mind Sports Games, planned for Kuwait in 2027, are intended to create another competition platform rather than reduce esports’ status in the Asian Games program.
Esports first appeared as a demonstration event at the 2018 Asian Games and became an official medal sport at Hangzhou 2022. The Aichi-Nagoya program includes 11 esports medal events spanning titles such as League of Legends, Pokémon Unite, Honor of Kings, eFootball and GT Racing 7.
