Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport opened to commercial passengers on Sunday, 25 October 2026, giving Sydney a second major passenger airport and a new 24-hour flight option. But booking the cheapest airfare is only half the decision: there is no direct train to the new terminal at launch, parking offers come with conditions, and international routes begin on different dates.
Updated 25 October 2026: WSI is now open to commercial passengers. This guide incorporates the confirmed first flight and published parking, bus and airline information. Schedules, fares, service hours and parking offers can change; use the linked official sources for your journey.

Opening day, 25 October 2026: what happened at Western Sydney International?
Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is now open for commercial passenger services. On Sunday 25 October 2026, passengers checked in at the new Badgerys Creek terminal for Jetstar flight JQ362 to the Gold Coast. The inaugural Airbus A320 service departed on Sunday morning, completing a milestone for Australia’s first major new greenfield airport in more than 50 years. The scheduled departure was 11am AEDT; contemporary opening-day reporting places the actual take-off shortly after 11am. This is no longer a projected launch date. Official opening-day announcement; ABC opening-day report.
For travellers booking flights now, the most important fact is that Western Sydney International (WSI) and Sydney Kingsford Smith (SYD) are different airports. WSI is at 40 Nancy Drive, Luddenham, about 45km west of central Sydney; it operates 24 hours a day without the existing Sydney Airport’s night curfew. Before purchasing a ticket, check the airport code, airport transfer, luggage allowance and the airline’s actual date-specific schedule. The new Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport rail line is not operating at launch; the free St Marys–WSI Link bus and other ground transport are the immediate alternatives.

How to reach WSI today: free bus, public routes, coaches, car and taxi
Free WSI Link: St Marys Station to airport
WSI Link is fare-free between St Marys Station, Nariel Street and WSI Airport Stand A. Transport for NSW says services operate every 30 minutes, from 4:30am to midnight Sunday–Thursday and 4:30am to 1am Friday–Saturday. The airport says the ride takes approximately 30 minutes, excluding the train trip to St Marys and waiting time. Travellers are encouraged to tap on and off with a valid Opal or contactless payment card so authorities can count passengers, but no WSI Link fare is charged. This special free link is not the same as the regular paid bus routes. Check the official WSI Link timetable.
Five regular public bus connections
Five Transport for NSW routes connect the airport with surrounding areas: 772 (Mount Druitt via St Clair), 790 (Penrith via Kingswood), 825 (Liverpool via Bonnyrigg), 845 (Campbelltown via Oran Park) and 860 (Liverpool via Leppington). These are ordinary paid public buses, accepting Opal or eligible contactless payment. The announced pattern is every 30 minutes, generally 5am–10pm. Use Transport for NSW’s WSI journey planner for live connections.
Express coach from Sydney CBD, Parramatta and Sydney Airport
The privately operated Super Shuttle WSI has published introductory one-way adult fares starting at A$25 from Parramatta CBD, A$55 from Sydney City and A$65 from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport. These are announced launch prices, not universally available final fares: confirm the departure stop, availability, luggage policy, booking terms and the exact amount for your date. Official airport announcement, 1 October 2026.
Driving, taxi and rideshare
Drivers can reach WSI through the toll-free M12 Motorway and airport access roads. Other roads on the journey, such as parts of the wider motorway network, can carry separate tolls. Follow signs to Nancy Drive, Luddenham rather than entering “Sydney Airport” in a navigation app, which may send you to Mascot. Dedicated taxi and rideshare areas are outside the terminal. There is no fixed airport-wide taxi fare: official taxi rules require the meter for ordinary hires unless pre-booking terms apply. Compare the full door-to-door cost and time with taking the free St Marys bus.
WSI parking prices: long-stay, Saver, Premium and free pick-up
Official introductory drive-up parking prices announced for the period 25 October 2026–30 April 2027 start from A$15/day for Long-stay P4, A$29/day for Saver and A$49/day for Premium. Those are starting prices, not a quote for every arrival, duration or car park; online booking can offer lower prices. Premium and Saver are a short two-to-three-minute walk from the terminal; Long-stay P4 uses a free shuttle bus. The airport has more than 6,000 parking spaces. Book or price-check at WSI’s official parking website.
| Parking choice | Launch drive-up rate, from | Access |
|---|---|---|
| Long-stay P4 | A$15 per day | Free shuttle to terminal |
| Saver | A$29 per day | Short walk to terminal |
| Premium | A$49 per day | Covered parking, short walk |
| Express pick-up / drop-off | Free for up to 15 minutes | Dedicated signed zone; time restrictions |
Three hours free parking: WSI announced a limited-time pre-booked three-hour Saver P2 parking promotion for qualifying visits from 26 October 2026. The official booking terms require online registration and limit availability; overstaying can cancel the free offer and trigger the full applicable charge for the stay. Do not assume the promotion is walk-up parking or begins on opening day. Read eligibility and book on WSI’s site; official parking launch release.
Is there a train or Metro directly to Western Sydney Airport?
Not on 25 October 2026. Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport remains under construction. WSI says its 23km airport line will link St Marys, Orchard Hills, Luddenham, the Airport Business Park, the terminal and Bradfield; the intended 2027 opening is a future project timetable, not a rail journey available today. For now, train travellers should transfer to the free St Marys WSI Link or a regular paid connecting bus. Allow sufficient time for transfers, potential traffic and queues during the first week of operation.

What is different at Sydney’s new 24-hour airport?
WSI has a 24-hour operating model and a terminal designed to handle up to approximately 10 million passengers a year as services expand. It is not starting with that many passengers or destinations: the launch-day route network is deliberately limited. Airport leaders say the site could eventually expand to a second runway and substantially higher capacity over several decades, but those are long-range projections rather than current service levels. The terminal and forecourt include accessibility arrangements, car hire and modern passenger processing areas. Requests for wheelchair assistance should be lodged with the airline in advance; airport sensory rooms and the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower programme are also outlined in WSI’s passenger FAQs.
Traveller checklist: seven things to do before flying from WSI
- Confirm the airport code. “WSI” is Western Sydney International at Luddenham; “SYD” is Sydney Kingsford Smith at Mascot.
- Confirm the real flight date. Airlines have staggered launches; not every announced destination is operating today.
- Book airport transfer first. Compare St Marys WSI Link, public buses, coach, taxi, rideshare and parking for your own address and departure time.
- Check 24-hour flight operations against transport hours. A flight can operate at night even when some public buses and trains do not.
- Allow extra time initially. This is an opening-week airport. Use your airline’s check-in and bag-drop guidance rather than guessing an arrival buffer.
- Choose parking carefully. The A$15, A$29 and A$49 amounts are launch from rates, and the promotional three free hours have separate booking conditions.
- Check baggage, identification, visas and connections. International services require airline-specific documentation; a connection through a different Sydney airport needs a deliberate ground transfer.

Which airlines and routes will operate from Western Sydney?
Jetstar operated WSI’s first passenger service, an Airbus A320 to the Gold Coast at 11 am on 25 October. Initial announcements outlined up to 14 weekly flights to Melbourne, four to the Gold Coast and three to Brisbane. Flights and their frequencies must be checked for the actual date being booked.
Air New Zealand is scheduled to begin Auckland flights on 26 October, while Singapore Airlines plans daily Singapore services from 23 November. These international launch dates are different from WSI’s first passenger day. Qantas and Vietjet Air have also announced their involvement in the new airport’s network; confirm the precise operating airline, destination and start date directly before purchasing.
Fiji Airways is a future addition rather than an October opening-day route: its announced WSI–Nadi service starts on 19 March 2027, operating three times weekly. The initial launch promotion advertised in September is historical, not a fare we have verified as available now. Source: WSI / Fiji Airways September announcement.
For travellers, the most important letters on the booking confirmation are WSI and SYD. They refer to two different airports. If an itinerary includes a flight from one and a connection from the other, leave ample time for road travel, baggage collection, immigration where relevant and traffic disruption. Airline self-transfers may not be protected connections.
How to get to WSI without a car
Free WSI Link bus from St Marys
Transport for NSW is launching a fare-free electric bus between St Marys railway station and the WSI terminal on 25 October. It is expected to run every 30 minutes from 4.30 am to midnight Sunday–Thursday, and from 4.30 am to 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Airport guidance estimates the journey at approximately 30 minutes.
At St Marys, the airport-bound bus uses the Nariel Street stop; at the airport it uses Stand A. Buses are wheelchair accessible and have dedicated luggage space. Passengers are encouraged to tap on and off to help count journeys, without being charged for the WSI Link itself. Travelling by rail to St Marys may still require an ordinary public-transport fare. See the official WSI Link timetable and boarding instructions.
Five local public bus routes
Scheduled services provide connections from Mount Druitt (772), Penrith (790), Liverpool via Bonnyrigg (825), Campbelltown via Oran Park (845), and Liverpool via Leppington (860). The published pattern is every 30 minutes, approximately 5 am to 10 pm, seven days a week. Routes can involve transfers, particularly for people living outside the main western Sydney corridors. The free WSI Link and these ordinary route services are not identical: check fares for ordinary bus journeys.
Paid Super Shuttle from Parramatta, Central Sydney and SYD
WSI announced an express electric coach service called Super Shuttle WSI with launch adult one-way fares from $25 to Parramatta CBD, $55 to Sydney CBD and $65 to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport. These are advertised starting prices as of 1 October, not a quote for every passenger or departure. Capacity, operating times, child fares and booking conditions need to be checked. Source: WSI official shuttle announcement.
What about the Metro?
The 23-kilometre Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport line, linking St Marys, the airport and Bradfield, is now expected in 2027. It is not a travel option for a flight departing on 25 October 2026. Do not rely on an imagined terminal-to-city rail journey at opening. Airport access overview and metro information.
Driving and parking: what will it cost?
The new toll-free M12 Motorway provides access from the surrounding road network, with direct connections through the M7–M12 interchange. Travellers using other tolled roads on their full route may still incur tolls; “toll-free M12” does not mean every journey to the airport is toll-free.
WSI has announced more than 6,000 parking spaces across the following launch categories:
- Long-stay P4: drive-up rates starting at $15 per day. A free shuttle connects this car park with the terminal.
- Saver: drive-up rates starting at $29 per day, in an uncovered section of P2.
- Premium: drive-up rates starting at $49 per day, with covered parking in P1/P2 and a short walk to the terminal.
- Express pick-up and drop-off: the airport has announced a free 15-minute zone, subject to signage and terms.
Launch drive-up rates were announced for 25 October 2026 through 30 April 2027; online booking and longer stays may produce different prices. The promoted three hours of free parking is a separate limited-time offer bookable online from 12 October for eligible visits from 26 October. It should not be mistaken for a universal opening-day benefit. Read current booking terms and availability before travelling.
Illustrative calculation: at a theoretical unchanged $15 daily long-stay rate, seven daily units would total $105; actual online pricing, daily cut-offs, availability and any fees can alter the final quote. Obtain a real booking quote rather than assuming a linear rate.
Taxis, rideshare and hire cars
Designated taxi ranks and rideshare pick-up zones are planned directly outside the terminal. Transport for NSW says taxis do not have a fixed fare set for WSI: the meter generally must operate unless the journey is pre-booked. A ride from the CBD may therefore cost materially more than from Penrith or Liverpool, depending on congestion, distance and the operator.
Hertz, Avis, Budget, Europcar and Redspot were named in the September airport announcement as car-hire partners. Confirm individual counter hours, booking arrangements, driver’s age conditions and insurance excess directly. Rental cars may make sense for travellers heading to the Blue Mountains or regional NSW, but less sense for a CBD-only visit.
Is WSI cheaper than Sydney Airport?
Not automatically. A competitive fare from WSI can be offset by the cost of a taxi, paid shuttle, fuel, parking or a long transfer. Some travellers in western Sydney may gain considerable convenience, while those living in eastern Sydney or making a complex connection may still prefer SYD. The correct comparison is total door-to-door cost and elapsed time, not headline airfare alone.
Before booking, compare: airfare with baggage; airport arrival time; ground-transfer cost for all travellers; parking or rideshare; travel time in peak conditions; return-flight arrival time; and cancellation or rebooking conditions. Because routes and launch promotions are changing, NextNews has not presented one sample airfare as a guaranteed live deal.
First-time passenger checklist
- Read the airport code on every flight leg: WSI or SYD.
- Confirm the airline actually operates that route on your date.
- Check luggage allowances and any self-transfer or separate-ticket risk.
- Use the Transport for NSW Trip Planner for actual bus/rail connections.
- If driving, book a specific parking product and retain the terms.
- For early or late flights, verify shuttle and bus operating hours and allow a contingency.
- Check accessibility, mobility assistance and airline check-in rules well before travel.

No. Use the train to St Marys and the free WSI Link bus, or another available ground-transport option, until the airport metro is operating.
Is three-hour parking free for every traveller?
No. The airport describes a limited promotional offer subject to advance online booking and eligibility for visits from 26 October. Other parking is paid.
Can I fly internationally from opening day?
International airlines have staggered launch dates: Air New Zealand is scheduled for 26 October and Singapore Airlines for 23 November. Verify other services with airlines.
NextNews verdict
WSI’s 24-hour operation and early domestic/international routes give western Sydney residents an important new choice. The practical weak point at launch is rail access, making a full ground-transport comparison essential. The best-value airport is the one that gets you to your final destination reliably at the lowest overall cost.
