The Australian Government says stronger NDIS integrity controls have delivered $2.1 billion in savings and benefits by preventing improper payments and redirecting participant funding towards legitimate services.
The official announcement, dated 23 September 2026, covers interventions between November 2022 and June 2026. It separates $1.2 billion in prevented fraudulent and non-compliant payments from $900 million in funding redirected away from bad actors.
That distinction matters: the combined figure is not simply money returned to government revenue, nor does it mean all the funding involved was identified as proven fraud.
The government also expects interventions implemented by 30 June 2026 to produce a further $2 billion in savings and benefits by June 2029. That additional amount is a forecast, not an already realised result.
For participants and providers, the announcement concerns scheme integrity. It does not determine an individual’s eligibility, change a specific plan or establish wrongdoing by any particular provider.
