The World Health Organization has announced the recommended influenza-virus composition for vaccines intended for the 2027 Southern Hemisphere flu season.
For egg-based vaccines, WHO recommends an A/Missouri/11/2025 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus, an A/Singapore/GP20238/2026 (H3N2)-like virus and a B/Austria/1359417/2021 (B/Victoria lineage)-like virus. Corresponding cell- or recombinant-based vaccines use an A/Missouri/11/2025-like H1N1 component, an A/Singapore/GP20238/2026-like H3N2 component and the same B/Victoria-lineage component.
The recommendations are produced through the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System, which analyses circulating viruses and vaccine performance data. National regulators and manufacturers use the guidance when preparing seasonal flu vaccines.
WHO’s announcement is an early planning step rather than a vaccination timetable. Local availability and public-health advice will vary by country.
