The Batman 2 Pushed to 2027; Mickey 17 Release Date Moves Forward

Matt Reeves’ long-expected sequel, The Batman Part II, is being delayed once again and furthering the wait of anxious fans for the movie’s continuation. Originally set to premiere on October 2, 2026, that date was a previous change brought about by the Hollywood writers’ strike. Warner Bros. was to have the sequel come out in 2025, then changed it because production fell behind schedule. In accordance with a report from Variety, it now appears the studio has pushed it even farther-to October 1, 2027.

Curiously, it would appear this is a strategic shift on the part of Warner Bros. The studio has filled the slot occupied by The Batman Part II with another project. Replacing it will be an untitled film by Tom Cruise and Alejandro G. Iñárritu, scheduled to release on October 2, 2026.

While the delay has disappointed several Batman fans, there’s a high note on the arrival of another promising adventure. Bong Joon-Ho’s science fiction Mickey 17 is going to arrive sooner than earlier thought. While originally scheduled to release in 2024, production delays pushed it further back into the future. However, Warner Bros. has updated the date to reschedule the opening of the movie on March 7th, 2025.

The movie adaptation of Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7, co-stars Robert Pattinson of The Batman Part II*. It tells the story of one cloned, disposable worker man, who dies multiple times throughout the story. The cast, which also includes Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Thomas Turgoose, looks pretty great.

To make room for the earlier release, Warner Bros. bumped Ryan Coogler’s Sinners from the date and into a new premiere on April 18, 2025, giving Mickey 17 ample time on Imax screens.

The delay of The Batman Part II makes it a little less than thrilling, but thankfully Mickey 17 is a silver lining to look forward to in the year 2025, especially for fans of Robert Pattinson and thrilling sci-fi escapades. Meanwhile, the return of the Dark Knight is still a little far away.
