Microsoft has rolled out a new feature that allows sharing files between an iPhone and a Windows PC. Announced Wednesday, the feature is rolling out to Windows Insiders via updates to the Phone Link app for Windows and the Link to Windows app for iPhones. The capability is still in test mode, but it represents a big step toward bridging the gap between Apple and Windows devices.
To access this new feature, Windows Insiders will need to update to the latest version of the Phone Link app. With that done, seamless file transfers between iPhone and PC are possible. Sharing a file from an iPhone to a PC involves a few simple steps: Find the file on your iPhone, tap the share icon, and select “Link to Windows.” Then, select the specific Windows device you want to send the file to.
On the other hand, sharing files from a PC to an iPhone is also easy. You will need to right-click the file you want to transfer and select “My phone.” The transfer will start automatically. These steps ensure that the process remains user-friendly and efficient.
For now, the feature is only available to Windows Insiders as part of testing. Microsoft has not indicated when it will be available to all users of the Phone Link app, but the addition is a promising one for those who work regularly on both platforms.
This new feature extends last year’s launch of Microsoft’s Phone Link for iOS. For some time, with Phone Link, iPhone users have been able to make and receive calls, send and receive iMessages, access contacts, and see notifications directly on a Windows PC. Until today’s update, these features have remained exclusive to Android users; iPhone owners had very basic functionality.
With the addition of file-sharing, Microsoft continues to bridge gaps in cross-platform compatibility. The development makes life easier for users of iPhones and Windows PCs in collaboration efforts and productivity. As testing proceeds, users will enjoy even smoother integration between the two devices.
