Microsoft is planning on changing the way things are when it comes to mobile gaming by adding a direct Xbox games store to its android app. Given the recent court ruling such order by Microsoft is now possible given that Google has been directed to open up the Play Store.
Commencing with November, Android users from the US will have an opportunity to use their Android phones or tablets to purchase Xbox titles without going through the steps of logging in to their consoles first. This shift comes as part of their mobile transition strategy and is quite the opposite of what has until then been the use of Google Play Billing as a precondition in every app.
Xbox president Sarah Bond has said it all when she said, ‘We all can’t wait for this change. The ruling of the courts to allow the Israeli judicial system to let another company manage Google’s mobile store will increase the options for flexibility. Although our strategy is to allow more players to play on more devices, we are happy to announce that, starting in November, players will be able to play and purchase Xbox games directly from the Xbox App on Android devices.
The ruling against Google extends a great deal of consequences to Microsoft. It is a win win for both the developers and the consumers in that competition will not be stifled by the mandate to adopt Google payments. Google will also have to make competing app stores available on the Play Store.
Microsoft introducing the sale of Xbox games on mobile devices based on Android systems directly by-passing Google Play Billing adds new opportunities.
